The construction of the bridge started in 1937 according to the plans by Arch. Miloslav Klement. It was the first time the bridge construction with two consave arches which span is 114 metres supporting suspension of the bridge has been applied in this country. In it's time it was considered a significant and modern european construction.
The bridge connecting Stechovice with Brunsov is situated at the site where a historical ferry crossing used to exist. The bridge construction was completed and the bridge ceremonial opening took place in 1939.
The final major bridge re-construction was done in 1995.
